Elizabeth Wilson

My Maternal 3rd Great-Grandmother

Marriage certificate of Elizabeth Wilson and Isaac Whiteside on May 31, 1847, Belfast, Ireland

Elizabeth Wilson was born about 1821 in the parish of Belfast, Ireland to James Wilson and Rebecca Lee. Very little is known about her childhood but it appears she had at least one younger brother, Joseph Wilson.

On May 31, 1847 spinster Elizabeth Wilson (25) married bachelor Isaac Whiteside (22) at the Parish Church of Belfast, in the county of Antrim, Ireland.  Both of their fathers were listed as weavers.

Elizabeth and Isaac had nine children however, sadly, at least four of them died in childhood of various illnesses such as Croup and Scarlett Fever. Their eldest daughter, Charlotte, (week 29) became my 2nd great-grandmother on my mother's side of the family. Between 1853 and 1855, the family emigrated to Scotland and settled in and around Glasgow.

The Scotland Census records Elizabeth every ten years between 1861-1911 as follows:

1911 - Elizabeth Whiteside (90); mother-in-law of David Johnstone, living at 109 Roslea Dr., Springburn, Glasgow with daughter Elizabeth and family.

Elizabeth Whiteside (92), widow, died on Dec 7, 1912 at 109 Roslea Drive Glasgow, of Senile Decay. Daughter Elizabeth Johnstone was present. Her parents were listed as Rebecca Lee and James Wilson (recorded as a landsteward), both deceased.

Dear John. That's very interesting. Do you have any photos? I know it's gone now as I tried to find it when I visited London.
