1911 Census - Elizabeth Kendall Bird.
Elizabeth Kendall was born in 1853 in Southwark, London, England to Elizabeth and William John Kendall. She was the fourth of ten children born in the family. As I have not located her birth certificate, I do not know her mother's maiden
name. Elizabeth can be found in the England census every ten years between 1861-1911, living first with her parents and then with her husband and children on Martin St. (later known as Miniver St.) in Southwark. In the 1881 census, her occupation
is listed as "charwoman". On occasion, both Elizabeth and her mother are referred to as "Betsy" in the records.
Elizabeth married William Bird (week #27) in 1876 and went on to give birth to eleven children, eight who survived into adulthood.
Annie Bird (week #3), the third daughter of Elizabeth and William, was the birth mother of my paternal grandfather, William Bird Churchill (week #23), who was relinguished to the care of Mary Ann Churchill. My grandfather came to Canada at age 2
and did not remember his mother or grandparents.
At the age of 56, Elizabeth was widowed when William died suddenly in 1909. To date, I have no records on Elizabeth Kendall Bird beyond the 1911 census.
