Peter Donald

My Maternal 3rd Great-Grandfather

Rattray, Perthshire Scotland was the birthplace of Peter Donald.

Peter Donald was born on October 26, 1826 and baptized on November 5th, 1826 in the parish of Rattray, Perthshire Scotland. He was the third of ten children born to James Donald and Kathrine MacIntosh.

Little is known of Peter as he is not listed in the 1841 census with his family and only appears in the 1851 census with his wife and children; his occupation is documented as a handloom weaver.

On July 7, 1848, Peter married Ann Davidson in the parish of Auchterarder, Perthshire. They had two children together, Cathrine, born September 15, 1848 and James, born July 19, 1850 (week #6) who became my maternal 2nd great-grandfather.  Cathrine and Peter are not found in future census records or death records; I believe they died in the early 1850's, likely before 1854 when the civil registration of deaths, births and marriages was implemented.  Peter would therefore have only been 24-27 years old when he died.  Ann was remarried in 1855 and listed as a widow on her marriage certificate.
