Skeetquoy property, St. Andrew's Parish, Orkney, Scotland, home of my 4th great-grandparents.
Margaret Foubister, my 4th great-grandmother, was born about March 8, 1763 (the day of her baptism) at St. Andrew's Parish Orkney, Scotland. She was the fourth of seven children born to John Foubister and Margaret Eunson who were married
February 7, 1749 in the same parish.
On November 2, 1793 in Kirkwall, Orkney, Margaret Foubister married James Smith, also from St. Andrews. Together they had seven children, including my 3rd great-grandmother, Margaret Smith (week 26).
Margaret Foubister appears in only one Scotland census:
1821 Scotland Census, St Andrews, District: 1, living at Property No: 57 - Skeetquoy:
James Smith, M, 57
Margaret Foubister, F, 57
Jane Smith, F, 20
John Smith, M,16
Skeetquoy was the homestead of the Smith family for generations to come. It was uninhabited and in ruin when I found it in 2009 during a trip to Orkney. It was quite moving to stand
next to the home and on the land in which my maternal ancestors lived over 200 years ago.
On January 19, 1836, at the age of 72, Margaret Foubister passed away at Skeetquoy.
