William Stickler

My 3rd Great Uncle - Maternal Side

William Stickler and Mary Logie at Gallowhall, Clay Loan, Kirkwall

William Stickler was the second child born to my third great-grandparents, Thomas Stickler and Mary Shearer; he was the older brother of Mary Shearer Stickler Heddle, my maternal great-great grandmother.  William was born on October 13, 1832 in Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland. William lived his life in and around Kirkwall working on farmland.  On February 8, 1855 he married Margaret Logie and together they had 10 children, one who is known to have died in childhood.

What most interests me about William and Mary is that I have connected with and met several of their descendants in Canada, Australia, the United States and Scotland, more than any other member of my family tree.

The Scotland Census records William and his family as such:

Dear John. That's very interesting. Do you have any photos? I know it's gone now as I tried to find it when I visited London.
